I would love to have the fast boot speed and superior read/write times that SSD can offer and willing to USB dongle a WiFi Connection (which is probably a better choice since I can get a WiFi6 option with an external antenna (5ft) that will vastly improve my reception on the 2nd floor) - my current wireless card which only supports 2.4g is a half height card I think - I will have to open it up and see how much space is available. I have a Microsoft Surface Studio computer in my Studio/Office downstairs and my laptop stays on my desk upstairs. I have maybe taken my laptop out of the house twice in last decade. I have been considering the very same configuration as GermanSausage. So the lesson boys and girls is that if you don’t actually know the answer to the question that is being asked, then you should keep your mouth shut. Instead of answering the question they just say, “you should do this instead.” And it didn’t occur to a single one of them that you can buy adapters to go from one type of key setup to another for a couple of bucks. Everyone wants to act like the person that posted isn’t capable of deciding how they want to operate their own equipment. SIMPLE!!!Įxact solution ( if works as not yet proven by me(check the comments section) ):

Of course it makes your computer less portable so that is the trade off, but if you want to do it, fine, It can be done Period!! You can find the mini Pcie ssd to fit in that slot. Then you can use a USB dongle for your wifi connection if that is what you want. And yes you can replace your Pcie wifi card with a Pcie ssd in that slot which is quite a bit faster than a msata or sata. There are too many people on these forums and on this thread that do not know what in the hell they are talking about, asking why would you want to do something you already said you wanted to do. There are too may people on this form and espeically this not sure m.2 is made that small since the nic's are usually pretty small nowdays on laptops

Why would you want to get rid of your wifi chip? what if you go to a place you need internet, and they dont have ethernet? also, i dont think that it would work. Thanks a lot for anything that you can contribute! If I can't replace my wifi card I will resort to just replacing my current SSD with a larger SATA SSD.

Would it be possibile to replace the wifi card with an SSD (PCIE or SATA, don't mind which), if necessary using an adapter or similar? I am planning to upgrade my storage capacity to around 500 GB. It also has a wifi module that connects using an mPCIE slot as far as I know. However, I still wanted to ask a question here: I have a relatively new skylake laptop by acer which has a 256 GB SATA m.2 SSD installed. I am new to the forum and computers so I don't know how things work around here.
